We’re proud to announce Swan School receiving an Oxford Preservation Trust Award.

Delivered by Corde, our integrated design team, Swan School is Oxford’s first new secondary school in 60 years. The 6FE school is located in the green belt as well as a Conservation Area. As a result, we made sure to respond sensitively to this setting along with the needs and interest of the community.

“The building sits comfortably in its surroundings and offers our staff and pupils a welcoming, light-filled, spacious and flexible environment in which to study and work. It provides us with exciting new opportunities in the way we teach, learn and interact with each other.”

Kay Wood, Headteacher, The Swan School

The design carefully responds to its setting and encourages widespread sustainability. We provided 700 bike spaces to encourage sustainable transport. Efforts to minimise embodied carbon was additionally addressed with the use of timber cladding, a low carbon material.

Headteacher Kay Wood called the project’s design “thoughtful, inclusive and sustainable” and that the Corde design teams knowledge and expertise “resulted in a 21st-century secondary school that we and the community can take immense pride in”.
