Last night our landmark research building for the University of Leeds was announced a winner at the RIBA Yorkshire awards.
The project breathes new life into the Grade II* listed Old Mining Building and provides the wider University community with a new gateway to the understanding and research of physical science. The new facility includes an array of teaching, learning and researching resources for the University. Other facilities include a new reception, a large central atrium, a café, communal learning spaces for students and staff, student support and an information centre. Through new landscaping, a public space is provided on the outskirts of the campus and main road, introducing spaces for students, staff and visitors to socialise.
Congratulations to the project team and all the other winners!
The University’s students and staff give their first impressions of the building in the video below.
