Last week we hosted our Social Re-purpose event for this year’s London Festival of Architecture (LFA) at the University of Westminster.

During the day we workshopped ideas for the ‘High Street of the Future’ with students. We examined and brainstormed three different types of high street – the linear high street, the anchor store and a vertical high street. Some really creative ideas were generated which were focussed around our key themes of sustainability, belonging and engagement.

In the evening, we held a panel discussion with industry experts exploring how we can collaboratively re-purpose and reinvent the high street, which was chaired by our regional healthcare director Hannah Brewster. Hannah was joined by Iain Nicholson (The Vacant Shops Academy), Bob McCurry (Barton Willmore), Tony Rackstraw (SEL CCG), Alison Crofton (Homes England) and Peter Ward (Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation Trust). It was great to collectively discuss how repurposing vacant high streets also presents opportunities to reconsider how we value health within our communities.

We’d like to thank everyone who was able to join us and we look forward to sharing content from the event over the next few weeks.
