Challenge

We are currently working on the refurbishment of an early-20th century building for the University of Westminster on Marylebone Road. Located in a conservation area, our plans involve converting the building to a student-focused, Inclusive Enterprise Centre.

The project is intended to bridge the gap between education and the business world, while prioritising accessibility, inclusivity and sustainability.

Approach + Solution

The project includes elements ranging from greater accessibility and inclusivity to new hybrid workplace environments. Additional features such as new levels of accommodation and roof terraces will be installed as part of the refurbishment.

Our plans, designed from our London studio, were praised by the Planning Committee for their commitment to sustainability. Reusing the existing building has been cited as a good example of retrofit, avoiding the carbon impact of a new build. But our commitment to sustainability doesn’t end there: updates to the internal systems should achieve around a 69% reduction on carbon emissions.
