City Campus is shortlisted in the Adaptive Reuse into Mixed Use category of the AJ Retrofit Awards 2026. This regeneration project has revitalised Gloucester’s high street through thoughtful reuse and reimagination.
City Campus transformed a redundant Debenhams department store into a new campus for the University of Gloucestershire. The building also home to the Gloucestershire County Council’s library and the NHS Arts, Health and Wellbeing Centre.

The AJ Retrofit Awards recognise architectural innovation in the adaptation, upgrade, and reuse of buildings, emphasising sustainability and responses to the climate emergency.
The project has already won the Retrofit Award, Building Project of the Year and Winner of Winners Awards at the West Midlands Constructing Excellence Awards, the Heritage and Regeneration Award at the Believe in Gloucester Awards, and was an Education Property Awards finalist.

Congratulations to everyone involved and the other finalists. We’re looking forward to finding out the results in September!
