Challenge

We’ve developed a close relationship with the Salford Royal Hospital over the past decade, working on eight separate projects there. This has involved various challenges – from creating a new heart care facility to refurbishing the outpatients’ reception.

With every project, the Trust wanted to create an exceptional patient experience. Often, this was as much about improving efficiency as it was about visual design elements: patients wanted to be able to find their way around the hospital quickly, and to be seen and treated without stress.

Approach + Solution

Our remodelling of the outpatients’ reception is a shining example of our work for the Trust. We developed a bespoke reception “pod”, designed so that patients feel more connected to staff. Reducing the number of seats in the reception helped to establish it as a transition point: patients are seen quickly, and the space is easier to navigate, with bright, bold graphics to lead the way.

We faced a different set of challenges when refurbishing the hospital’s dementia ward. Here, we wanted to design the space in such a way that patients could walk around independently, using even-coloured flooring and optimal lighting to achieve this.

With every project we have delivered for the Trust, we’ve taken care to put patients and staff first. This is reflected in the wide range of positive comments from the people who use these spaces – often in difficult or highly pressured circumstances.

“ADP has delivered an exceptional design that raises the bar for good design in healthcare. From a limited brief they have steered the project carefully to engage the Trust and deliver ground-breaking proposals that embody our ethos of safe, clean and personal care.”
