We are excited to share that Granton Station Square has won a Future Cities Forum Award at the 2022 Winter Awards, in the ‘Masterplanning- regeneration and mixed use’ category. The project is part of the Granton Waterfront Strategic Plan by Collective Architecture for the City of Edinburgh Council.
The Granton Waterfront is one of Scotland’s key sustainable developments and a fundamental part of Edinburgh’s target to become a net zero city by 2030. Our challenge was to transform this historic building into a modern, sustainable and adaptable space for local businesses to thrive.
Our head of landscape Claire Hunt said: “The public realm design for Granton Station Square reveals the layers of history of the former gas works train station. The lines of railway tracks now deliver surface water into two large rain gardens which contain planting and trees to frame the beautiful station building whilst increasing the biodiversity of the area.
Our landscape team worked with the client from the early stages with heritage and biodiversity at the heart of the design. We were clear that we wanted to do things differently to reinvent the space and this ethos carried on throughout the design process.
Our goal is to ensure people can connect with nature and we are delighted to see this scheme delivering our core principle.”

“Granton Station refurbishment is an enormously important project to bring back into relevance this historic landmark. ADP have been very lucky to support City of Edinburgh on this regeneration project – a small piece of the jigsaw, but one that we hope helps to set the quality agenda for the whole development.”
